I hope you had a good and restful weekend?
Ours was rather stressful, spending 4 hours in the Accident and Emergency waiting room with Dad on Saturday evening...
My Dad started having terrible pains in his neck in the middle of last week. It got worse and worse, and he was told by his doctor on Thursday that it was muscular, but we've all been so worried because he looked so ill, and has been in total agony. He hasnt been able to sleep - and he wasn't eating, or drinking...
Anyway, long story short, on Saturday afternoon he complained of pains in his arms and chest, he was slurring his speech, not making much sense, he was ashen, his lips looked blue and we feared he may be having a stroke, so called an ambulance.
Luckily he wasn't! After a quick assessment at the hospital, confirming that it wasn't a stroke, we had to wait 4 hours for him to be seen properly by a doctor (it was extremely busy in there)!
The doctor was lovely and gave Dad a thorough examination. His pains in his arms and chest - all stem from the severe muscles spasms in his neck (at the base of his skull) and the slurred speech, etc, was caused by the strong pain medication he'd been given. He's very pale because of being in such pain, lack of sleep etc...
The doctor was able to put our minds at rest (especially Dad's) that this is not a spinal problem and changed the medication, advising Dad that it will likely take at least a week before he sees any improvement. (Which we're pleased about as Dad was determined he'd be ok in couple of days - he can be very stubborn about resting and letting other people do things for him - he's not the most patient patient!)
He is still in agony - angry and frustrated, not knowing what started this problem with his neck - he is usually a very fit and healthy 77 year old - always on the go, always doing something... It's very upsetting for all of us seeing him this way - especially for my Mum, who has to deal with her own constant severe back pain and health problems, including diabetes :(
Any prayers and healing sent for both of them would be gratefully received - thank you.
In the meantime, manic Monday is upon us and I have the usually frantic day ahead, so I shall have my third coffee of the morning and get stuck in!
